November 29, 2015: Our 2015 season is now officially over. Karl and Marianne used frozen fingers to take down our nets this afternoon. They deserve a HUGE THANKS for all of the big and little things they do for our club all year long.
This Fall we celebrate a group of die-hard members who just wouldn't quit! Sources say that there were players on the courts as recently as Friday morning. That's tennis dedication! Those folks will still be in shape when we meet again in the Spring. Keep in mind that there are opportunities in and around our community to keep you moving over the winter. There is indoor tennis in Belleville and, closer to home, there is drop-in Badminton at E.N.S.S. starting at 7:00pm every Monday evening.
September 19, 2015: We have rain in the forecast again today. Our tournament is now re-scheduled for Sunday, September 20th. Members who have sent their email response indicating they want to participate do not need to re-register.
September 11, 2015: Due to rain in the forecast, our final tournament for the season- now named The John MacCallum Memorial Tournament- has been postponed until September 19th. Members who had already signed up for the morning or afternoon session on the 12th do not need to re-register. Any members who didn't sign up for the 12th who would like to be included now that the date has changed, may sign up by emailing their morning or afternoon playing time preference to email@example.com
August 19, 2015: A correction to the report on the Men's Tournament below: BRYAN was the one who facilitated prizes and refreshments this time. Bryan, who by all accounts, was on fire last Wednesday evening. We wonder what was in the 'refreshments' he served himself... Seriously- thanks to you Bryan. We're told that all participants really enjoyed the tournament.
August 16, 2015: Word has filtered back about last Wednesday evening's fast-paced Men's Tournament. With only one player sitting out at a time, the rotations were swift and relentless! Apparently the guys were too busy rallying to take any photos, so you will just have to make your own mental images. Bryan finished with the most points, followed by Gary; then Russ, Matt, and Glen came next in the percentage race. Congratulations to all who participated for their stamina and good-sport play. Thanks to Karl for setting up the matches and to Marianne for organizing refreshments and prizes.
August 4, 2015: Congratulations to BTC's very own Kerry who, as well as her husband Glen, participated in the Port Hope Racquet Club Charity Tennis Tournament on July 25. Glen and the partner he was matched up with made it to the Mixed Doubles Semi-Finals. Well Done, Glen.... but, get this- Kerry and her partner (from another club) WON the event! Wow! We're proud that these two BTC members represented our club so brilliantly. Click here for a photo of Kerry with that impressive trophy. The other 'winner' was the charity organization Kidsport. This tournament raised $1675. Now that's a good news story!
July 21, 2015: Two news items for our members: 1) If enough interest is shown, a Men's Doubles Tournament will be organized for Wednesday, August 12, starting at 7:00 pm. Partners and matches would be set up by Karl at the courts. Men from our club who would like to play should indicate by emailing Kathryn at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. 2) Also coming up in August, The best women tennis players in the world will be in Toronto for The Rogers Cup from August 8-16. If you would like to see some qualifying matches and enjoy FREE access to the grounds, head down on August 8 or 9th. For more information about the weekend's festivities and the rest of the tournament, visit: rogerscup.com **NOTE ADDED AUG. 4: According to an official phoned at Tennis Canada, tickets are not required to get into this FREE event on Aug. 8 or 9th; however, our club was issued tickets as a promotion. If you plan to go on this first weekend and would feel more confident having a ticket in hand, contact Kathryn on the courts or by email (email@example.com) or see Karl or Marianne. We have lots of tickets available.
July 17, 2015: The Ladies had a great evening of tennis on July 14. Marianne called out the matches and Alyson made sure we had refreshments. Somehow the rain held off. Oh, yes, Marianne also organized prizes for our deserving winners. Check out some photos of the fun.
July 10, 2015: Last evening's weather was worth waiting for. Our OTA Clinic went ahead with 20 pre-registered club members all eager to pick up pointers from David Lea, the Ontario Tennis Association's Community Development Manager. We appreciate David making his way across the 401 to share his tennis experiences with us and to inspire our improvement through lively drills. For photos from the OTA Clinic, click here.
June 25, 2015: We regret that our OTA Clinic was cancelled this evening. There was a high possibility of rain in the forecast which made it unreasonable for David Lea to drive all the way from Toronto. The good news is that we have a rain date: Thursday July 9th. The other good news is that Mr. Lea would be quite happy to put on two skills and drills sessions while he is here on the 9th. That means even members who didn't sign up for today's session are welcome to register for one of two clinic times on the 9th. Details will be emailed to all adult members next week. Of course if you already registered for today's clinic, you are automatically registered for July 9th.
Other dates of note: On Tuesday, July 14th we will have a tournament for the Ladies Members. There is no need to sign up for this, ladies. Just show up to warm up by 6:45 and Marianne will arrange the rotating partners and matches. It's always a fun evening. (A men's tournament will take place some time in August).
The weekend of August 21-23 our courts will be used for the 9th annual Doug Grant Tennis Open. Men's Singles and Doubles, Women's Singles and Doubles and Mixed Doubles are invited to register. Entry fees are $30 for a single player and $30 for a doubles team. 20% of the entry fees will go to the Canadian Cancer Society . There will be a BBQ at noon on the Saturday. Contact Mike Pope 613-242-3311 or 613-242-1748 email: firstname.lastname@example.org Note: this tournament will NOT affect regular Sunday Morning Men's time.
June 1, 2015: Four things of note: 1) Now that the Highschool team is finished their season, court times are available on weekday afternoons. 2) The Mixed Singles Ladder Rankings have been adjusted as of today to include players who have joined on for the first time this season. Be sure to also check the MSL Rules by following the link on the homepage because there are some changes from last year's guidelines. 3) Captions have been added to the photos taken at our Meet and Greet tournament. Use the "photos of the fun" link in the May 27 posting below to have a look. 4) For members only: Mark June 25th on your calendar. An Email will be going out to all members soon about an upcoming OTA clinic being held at our courts. Members will need to sign up to take part in this event. Watch for an email from BTC for details.
May 27, 2015: Although it was windy and cold, the sun and smiles were out in full force at our Meet and Greet Tournament last Saturday May 23. We are very grateful to Marianne and Karl for all of the organization and good humour they provided throughout the entire day to make our tournament such a success. Have a look at some photos of the fun. Thanks to Dennis for bringing his camera. We paid him in pizza, which the rest of us enjoyed too.
May 16, 2015: If you are a registered Brighton Tennis Club member, then you are automatically also an Ontario Tennis Association (OTA) member. In mid-June, club members will get information by email about a clinic being put on at our courts at the end of June. In the meantime, there is an OTA Members' Day happening on May 30 at the Merchant of Tennis at 1621 Bayview Avenue in Toronto as well as the Oakville loaction at Olde Oakville Market Place, 361 Cornwall Road. Members who go to either of these locations will receive a complimentary gift bag (made of sponsor product, Rogers Cup Tickets and access to special pricing for visitors to the store). You may also visit on-line that day at www.merchantoftennis.com to have access to the offers. All you need to do is identify yourself as a member of the Brighton Tennis Club. It could be a good way to shop for the tennis gear you want to get ready for the summer.
May 8, 2015: Our season is off to a great start! We have a lively bunch coming out to our Mixed Doubles Mornings now that the weather has warmed up and Men's and Ladies' nights are underway too.
